Turmeric (scientific name-Curcuma longa) is a spice also known as Curcuma domestica, Curcuma aromatic. The turmeric plant belongs to the ginger family Zingiberaceae.
Turmeric is valued in every Sri Lankan kitchen for its subtle flavour, distinct yellow colour, and powerful aroma.
Turmeric is a herbal medication that is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, chronic anterior uveitis, conjunctivitis, skin cancer, smallpox, chicken pox, wound healing, and urinary tract infections. Similarly, Turmeric is an important medicine in the Ayurvedic treatment of diabetes. Consumption of Turmeric is known to lower blood sugar levels. Turmeric is said to be also useful in preventing liver disease and rebuilding the liver. It is used to treat digestive disorders; to reduce flatus, jaundice, menstrual difficulties, and colic; to treat abdominal pain and distension; and treat dyspeptic conditions such as loss of appetite, postprandial feelings of fullness, and gallbladder complaint. According to research, significant quantities of turmeric can be eaten from curries to provide enough antioxidant protection. Turmeric contributes to the unique yellow color and flavor of curry. It's a coloring agent found in cheese, butter, and other foods. Turmeric has made its way into Ethiopian cuisine as a result of Indian influence. Turmeric is frequently utilized in processed foods such as canned drinks, dairy products, baked products, ice cream, yellow cakes, yogurt, orange juice, biscuits, popcorn, sweets, cake icing, cereals, sauces, and gelatins. It is a significant ingredient in most commercial curry powders.
We produce turmeric from high-quality turmeric tubers through organic farming which doesn’t contain any heavy metals in our soil. Turmeric plants need a temperature of 20°C and 30°C and a considerable amount of annual rainfall.
Turmeric powder should be stored in a cool dry place. This can be kept for about one year.
